OUR HISTORY

HBT started in 1997, beginning with just 13 member stores and growing steadily over time. Today, HBT includes over 1,000 independently owned and operated retail and trade stores across Australia, in every state and territory. These stores specialise in hardware, building supplies, industrial, paint, rural, garden, and timber.
 
Since its inception, HBT has played a pivotal role in supporting independent retailers, helping them compete effectively by leveraging the group’s collective buying power. Over the years, HBT has expanded its partnerships to include more than 500 suppliers, providing members with access to a wide range of quality products, strong trading terms, and ongoing support.
 
In 2025, HBT joined Stealth Group Holdings, marking a new chapter in our history and reinforcing our commitment to delivering even greater benefits and opportunities for our members and suppliers.
